Series of changes that take place in the shape of the lens and the eyeball in response to the distance of an object from the eye.

Accommodation

Receptors in the ear that detect changes in the direction and speed of head movements.

Cristae

Watery fluid that supports the cornea and the front chamber of the eye.

Aqueous humour

Nerve cell that carries nerve impulses from receptors towards the CNS.

Sensory neuron

Rapid involuntary response to a stimulus.

Reflex action

Part of a neuron that serves to insulate and thereby increase the speed of impulse conduction.

Myelin sheath

Part of the brain that joins the two hemispheres.

Corpus callosum

The spaces between sections of myelin along a nerve fibre
